Turgutreis

The town is named after the famous admiral, Turgut Reis  who was born here in the early 16th century. Turgut Reis raised from humble origins to command the Ottoman navy, conquering Corsica and returning to Istanbul with a great number of prisoners. He was killed in 1595 during an attempt to take Malta. There is a statue of him near Turgutreis Town. 

Turgutreis  coast is favored by professional wind surfers because of its suitable winds.  It also attracts many people because of it market day  on Saturdays.  This volcanic area is interesting and offers possibilities for  trekking and walking tours. Visitors enjoy the  volcanic landscape which is very impressive and dramatic. Turgut Reis Region covers an  area of 6833 hectares and a coastline  38150 m long. 

The 14 small islands, located nearby Turgutreis, are used  by the local fishermen for fishing and by  farmers as additional pasture land for their animals. These islands and beautiful coastline offers great possibilities for sailing, boat and diving tours.

Turgutreis is a departure point for many buses traveling through Anatolia. Daily boat trips can be taken from Turgut Reis departing to Karaincir, Akyarlar,  Gumusluk and Yalikavak.
