Mausoleum  Museum

A small museum at the site of mausoleum gives excellent idea about the former Mausoleum, one of the wonders of the ancient world. After entering the indoor section of the museum, left wall has many different suggestions about the appearance of mausoleum. Until the final digs, we had vague idea about the exact plan and architecture of the mausoleum. Danish archaeologist, digging at the site of the mausoleum, discovered very important architectural pieces adding so mush our knowledge about the monument,

Visitors also enjoy a plan of the ancient Halikarnassos with city walls, theatre, mausoleum, ancient harbor with the secret harbor. Above the plan of the city,  visitors see famous terrace of the mausoleum where the body of the king was cremated and funeral ceremonies were held in honor of the king. Black and white photos on the right wall show the images of the statutes discovered by Sir Newton at the site. Among these statutes we can indicate the statue of Mausolus, his wife Artemisia II and pieces of the chariot and the horse, discevered by Sir Newton.  

Forecourt

Two pictures show the monument in reconstructed state. Visitors also enjoy last surviving frieze of the mausoleum again discovered at the walls of the castle.
